Clarence Brown

Clarence H. Brown age 92 of Atwater returned to his Creator at 10:40 p.m. November 20, 2003, at Longmeadow Care Center.
He was born in Tarentum, Pennsylvania on August 2, 1911 to Howard and Mabel (Leeser) Brown.
Mr. Brown graduated from Barberton High School in 1929, and while in high school, he worked at Kitzmiller's Print Shop in Barberton. After graduating, he worked as a sign painter for Grossvater Brewery in Akron, and then at Ohio Neon Sign in Akron. He was the co-owner of Summit Neon Sign Company for 23 years.
He later was the co-owner of Red Spot Gas and Oil in Canton and Akron. He is credited with building West Manor Trailer Park in Canton and enlarging the Terrace Trailer Park in Massillon. He then purchased approximately 30 acres of land in Atwater, where he resided.
Mr. Brown began flying airplanes in 1939 and earned his commercial pilot's license in 1946, and was an active pilot for about 40 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, including several trips out west to hunt in Wyoming and South Dakota, and deep-sea fishing in Florida. He also enjoyed traveling the country in his travel trailer, including the Trans-Canada Highway.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Portage Lakes Masonic Lodge, and past grand master. He received several Masonic honors, including the 50-year award for faithful service to the Grand Lodge of Masons of Ohio.
He is survived by three children Douglas Brown of Magnolia, Texas, Dennis of Houston, Texas, and Barbara Skeen of Atlanta, Georgia, 10 grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Eleanor (Benke) whom he married June 17, 1933 and who died Feb. 16, 1999.
Private Family Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Georgia.
