Clyde L. Hoff, age 91 of Marlboro, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday April 22, 2006 at Altercare of Alliance with his family and loving friend Millie Johnson by his side.
He was born Feb. 12, 1915 in Marlboro Twp., Ohio to Albert and Orhea (Oyster) Hoff and lived most of his life in Marlboro.
He attended the former Marlboro High School and helped run the family farm. He later joined his father Albert Hoff in construction.
Mr. Hoff was a member of the Chapel in Marlboro, where he was a member of the Jolly Pilgrims and Friendship Sunday School Class. In his later years, he enjoyed making pine needle baskets that he learned to make when living in Florida for 22 winters. He previously served ten years on the former Marlboro Twp. School Board before becoming Marlington Local Schools. He also enjoyed sports and spending time with this family and grandchildren.
During the 1930's he was well-known as a banjo player, playing with the Marlboro Serenader's String Quartet; and in 1935, he joined the former Junior Order of United American Mechanic Lodge of Marlboro, and served for a number of years as its finance secretary.
Surviving are one daughter, Norma Jean (George) Schwinn of Marlboro; one son, Bob Hoff of Marlboro; eight grandchildren, Ron, Pam, Dave, Jim, Deb, Lois, Teresa, and Scott; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth (Miller) Hoff, whom he married April 15, 1936, and who died Dec. 22, 2004; one brother, Herman; and one daughter-in-law, Juanita Hoff.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Marlboro Cemetery.
