Cynthia Jane Davis Harper, 60, of Alliance, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Regency Hospital in Ravenna.
Cindi, as she was known to her many friends, was born April 1, 1950, in Alliance to Donald and Mary Loomis Davis, and lived in the area all of her life.
A 1968 graduate of Marlington High School, she received her bachelor's in education in 1972, from Mount Union College, where she was a member of the college choir that toured Europe in 1971. She had a master's degree in counseling from Kent State University. Cindi taught for several years at Marlington Middle School, and had also been employed by the Brown Local School District. As a licensed professional counselor, she worked with children and adolescents at the Grief Support and Education Center in North Canton, co-authoring manuals representing her work.
She was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church, where she had been the membership secretary for many years, taught Sunday school, directed the children's choir, and had been a member of the senior choir and the bell choir. She was an honorary life member of Carnation City Players, where she acted, directed, served as president, and as wardrobe chairman, designed and made costumes for scores of plays and musicals. Cindi was the recipient of an Ohio Community Theater Association regional acting award for her performance in the William Inge play, "Picnic." She served for many years as membership vice president of the Alliance Community Concert Association, retiring from the association board earlier this year. Cindi sang with the Canton Symphony Orchestra Chorus for more than 20 years, serving as chorus secretary.
Cindi is survived by her husband, Thomas N. of the home, whom she married February 6, 1988. She is also survived by special persons, David and Kathy Falk, Darren, Kenneth and Jonathan Falk, Jessie Thompson Brinkley and Kristen, Trevor and David Thompson. Several cousins, including Carolyn Hostetler, Ruth Ann MacNeil, Glenn Loomis and Kathy Scott, also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by special persons, Terry Thompson and Megan Thompson.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Union Avenue United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hoyte Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday September 17, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and at the church for one hour prior to the time of services.
