Darla D. (Hardman) Burris, age 73, of Alliance, passed away at 1:35 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2018, at her home in Lexington Township.
She was born February 3, 1945, in Alliance, Ohio, to Roy and Annabelle (Humphries) Hardman and is survived by her children Warren (Michelle) Price of Canton and Shawna (Michael) Price of Alliance; grandchildren, Brennan, Lauren, Oliver and Jedi; sisters, Shyrlane Gajdzik, Vallene Hall-Hardman, Holly Weigand, and Lana Perkins; Brother-in Law Bill Burris. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Russell Price and Harry Burris; and brothers Roy "Buddy" Hardman and, Charles Hardman.
Darla was well known in Alliance for her generosity, sense of humor and brown bread, which she prepared lovingly and distributed to the community during the holidays. A prolific writer, Darla published more than 300 poems as well as winning countless awards in poetry and short story competitions. Darla has an anthology of over 3000 pieces written over a period of 60 years. She also completed a novel in 1990.
In addition to her writing career, Darla also earned her Associate of Art from Kent State University in Early Childhood Development and was an educator and curriculum coordinator for Head Start during the nineties. Always an avid lover of horses, Darla could be spotted at Tractor Supply Co. shopping for supplies to care for her beloved Casey, a retired Peruvian Paso, and various pasture mates. Darla dedicated many years providing animals with happy, loving forever homes.
As importantly, Darla made lasting, meaningful connections with nearly everyone she encountered through her kindness and authenticity. Whether at Buckeye Village or making her rounds at Family Video, she brought merriment wherever she went. As a mother and grandmother, Darla simply had no equal in the eyes of her family and will be missed terribly. She expressed daily how loved she felt by the outpouring of support from friends and family in the last few months. It sustained her through a very difficult and unexpected illness and for that we thank you.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
