Darlene Shaffer

Darlene L. Shaffer, age 82, of Alliance, died at 5:15 p.m. February 24, 2011, at her home.
She was born September 2, 1928, in Champaign, Illinois, to Thomas David and Lola Gertrude (Fluke) Burnett.
Darlene graduated in 1946 from high school in Champaign, Ill. and was a member of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church and its Naomi Circle.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and East Milton Garden Club. Darlene had a great love for her family and enjoyed spending time with them, she also liked being outdoors, planting flowers, tending her garden and was an avid Ohio State football fan.
Survivors include two sons, Richard D. (Diane) Shaffer and Gregory Thomas (Rhonda) Shaffer, both of Alliance; five grandchildren, Jenna, Jaimie, Aaron, Jonathan and Christopher; two brothers, Robert Chauncy (Charlotte) Burnett and Lloyd Wayne Burnett; a sister in-law, Ethel Burnett, all of Champaign, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Atlee Shaffer, who died in 1997; and a brother, Thomas Melvin Burnett.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Megan D. Elliott officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
