David A. Edgecombe of Alliance, Ohio and Port St. Lucie, Florida 1922-2016, died peacefully, May 19th at the age of 93. David was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, the son of Arthur C. and Carolyn (Brown) Edgecombe. He served in the United States Navy as a night fighter squadron leader in WWII and later served in the Navy Reserve. In 1947 he graduated from Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburgh with a degree in aeronautical engineering, and where he also excelled at tennis and golf.
He began his career in 1947 as an engineer for the Babcock & Wilcox Company, Tubular Products Division in Beaver Falls and retired 38 years later as Plant Manager of the Babcock & Wilcox Tube in Alliance in 1985. He held thirteen engineering patents. He was a member of the Alliance Rotary Club, First Presbyterian Church of Alliance, and served on the board of the United Way. He was an avid golfer and a past president and board member of the Alliance Country Club.
He loved his family, the people he worked with, golfed with, sailed with, and had breakfast with every Saturday morning at the Alliance Elks Club. He was happiest when in a room filled with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was beloved by his many friends and family who will remember him as a man of honor, courage and loyalty. He made a difference in the lives of so many.
David was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Joanne (Robinson) Edgecombe, and by his second wife, Mary Louise (Cooey) Edgecombe.
He is survived by his loving family: sister, Carolyn E. Deming, his children, Richard A. (Sandy) Edgecombe, Susan E. (Paul) Gill, Patricia E. (Duke) Martin, Sarah Edgecombe, Anne E. (Greg) Jones; grandchildren, Margaret Edgecombe, David, Patrick, and Zachary Gill, Kimberly Gill Hilden, Kathryn and Timothy Jones, Donna Martin; and great-grandchildren, Lily Gill, Ileia Hilden, and Jackson Gill.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with his grandson, David Gill officiating. Visitation will be held at 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mount Union Cemetery.
