Dr. David T. Fitzelle, age 86, of Alliance, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010, at his home.
He was born January 31, 1924, in Oneonta, New York, to Dr. Albert E. and Ruth (Thornton) Fitzelle.
Dr. Fitzelle graduated from the University of Rochester and later the University of Rochester Medical School in 1947 in New York.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He served on the Alliance Board of Education from 1958 - 1970 and was past president of the board, member of the Alliance Shade Tree Commission, Alliance Kiwanis Club, Stark County Medical Association and the Alliance Country Club. He enjoyed sailing, gardening, playing tennis, running and photography.
Dr. Fitzelle was a United States Navy Veteran having served during the Korean War aboard a general transport ship, "The General William O. Darby" which transported troops to Pacific bases. Upon his discharge, he moved to Alliance to practice internal medicine with Dr. William Baker until his retirement in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Bickford) Fitzelle of Alliance, whom he married December 10, 1949; two sons, William Fitzelle and George (Marcie) Fitzelle, both of Alliance; two daughters, Patricia (Christopher) Fogle of Westerville, Ohio and Lucy Fitzelle of Alliance; five grandsons, four great-grandchildren; twin brother, Dr. George (Connie) Fitzelle of Kingston, RI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, A.E. Fitzelle.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Hone with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2010.
