Dean G. Kerr, age 72 of Minerva, died at 1:11 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 at Aultman Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1933 in Alliance, Ohio to Earl George and Marguerite N. (Hendershot) Kerr. Dean lived in New Jersey for 25 plus years, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario from 1973 - 1982, and returned to Alliance in 1982.
Dean was a 1951 graduate of Haddonfield High School in Haddonfield New Jersey where he played football. He completed his education at Mount Union College in 1959, attaining a B.S. in Geology.
He retired from the Stark County Auditors Office, Division of Weights and Measures in 1999. He also worked for the New Jersey State Highway Dept. and Middleditch Industrial Sales.
Dean loved to watch and play golf; after his retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at Pleasant View Golf Course.
He was a member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ, and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Dean was also a proud member of the Haddonfield YMCA and a past president of the Ohio Weights and Measures Association.
Dean is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sue (Frazier) Kerr, whom he married Nov. 29, 1980, and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary; children, Denise Ann Clemons and Howard Gorman of Columbus, Ohio; Alan Howard (Debbie) Kerr of Hamilton, Ontario, Diane Aileen (Jim) Brophy, of Dundas, Ontario; grandchildren, Collin and Emily Clemons, Jessica, Alaina, and Steven Kerr; and Michael Brophy; brothers, Bruce Earl (Carole) Kerr of Williamsburg and Lynn Allen Kerr of Rockwell, Texas; many nieces and nephews and other loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jean Eileen Middleditch whom he married March 6, 1954 and passed away in 1979.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Immanuel United Church of Christ with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the family home at 1455 Pleasant Ridge in Minerva.
