DeWayne E. Hoffmeyer, age 69, of Alliance, died at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.
He was born in Sebring, December 22, 1942, to Mervin W. and Ruth L. (Allcorn) Hoffmeyer.
DeWayne attended Berlin Center and Sebring schools, was employed as a truck driver and retired from the City of Alliance Street Department after more than 20 years of service.
He was a member of First Church of God, played Pony League baseball in Berlin Center and later coached Alliance Hot Stove for 10 years. He was an avid bowler and sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State. DeWayne especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
DeWayne was a United States Army veteran having received a National Defense Service Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. (Ringwald) Hoffmeyer of Alliance, whom he married April 22, 1970; two children, Todd (Heidi) Hoffmeyer of Alliance and Traci (Tom) Tschappatt of Boardman; six grandchildren, Katelyn, Matthew, Andrew and Travis Hoffmeyer, all of Alliance, and Tyler and Tori Tschappatt, both of Boardman; sister, Deanna Bradway of Sebring; brother, Wesley (Sherry) Hoffmeyer of Beloit; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Jim Bradway.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, at First Church of God, 505 N. Lincoln St., Alliance, with Pastor Larry Murphy officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
