Diana Himmelheber, age 86, of Alliance, passed away, Monday, July 22, 2024 at Stone Creek Memory Care, after a long battle with dementia.
She was born January 25, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Chesley Brooks and Marcella (Nauman) Martin.
Diana was a graduate of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, followed by a graduate degree at Lexington Theological Seminary, earning her Masters of Christian Education Degree. During her time there she met and married her husband, Melvin Earl Himmelheber, from West Palm Beach, Florida. Following graduation, they were married on August 24, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri. Earl’s career brought them to Ohio, where Diana entered into her education career at Washington Elementary School, where she taught kindergarten and second grade for more than 25 years. Diana has been a loyal member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ for over 55 years. She loved music, and sang in the church choir until 2020 and the covid shutdown. Diana also played in the church bell choir, taught children’s Sunday school, and supported the Christian youth groups. Diana also served as a church deacon, elder, board member, and on numerous church committees. She loved participating in Christian Women’s Fellowship, Michael’s Closet and the food pantry. After she retired, she was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross in Alliance. Her other hobbies included sewing, gardening, and collecting antiques.
Diana was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (2015) and her brother, Bruce Martin of St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Himmelheber of Waldorf, Maryland; son, Eric (JoDee) Himmelheber of Alliance; grandchildren, Brock, Blane, Segen, and Beau Himmelheber; and great-granddaughter, Gianna Himmelheber; brother, Brooks (Gretchen) Martin, Jr of Dunnellon, Florida; and sister, Linda Sue Martin of Olympia, Washington.
Services will be held on Monday, July 29th at First Christian Church at 11:00 a.m., with Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call one hour prior. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
