Donald A. Peterson, age 88 of Alliance, died at 8:10 p.m. Aug. 26, 2006 at Community Care Center.
He was born in Sept. 18, 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio to Albert and Hattie (Anderson) Peterson and lived in Alliance most of his life.
Mr. Peterson graduated from Mount Union College where he received an Honorary Doctorate.
He was the former publisher of the Alliance Review and current owner of Q92 and WDPN Radio Stations.
Mr. Peterson was a member of Christ United Methodist Church; member of Alliance Kiwanis, Filibusters, Wranglers, BPOE #467, and Alliance Country Club.
He was a former member, past chairman, and Chairman Emeritus of the Mt. Union College Board of Trustees, former chairman of the former Alliance Federal Savings and Loan, former member of the former First National Bank Board, and former board member of the United Way.
A U.S. Navy W.W.II Veteran, Mr. Peterson was a Lt.Jg, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine H. (Hoiles) Peterson, whom he married July 20, 1940, and recently celebrated 66 years of marriage; one son, Donald (Dianna) Peterson Jr., of Alliance; one daughter, Jill (John) McCarty, of Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Donald (Christine) Peterson III of Canton, Molly (Tom) Peters of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Brian (Katherine) McCarty of Lexington, Ky, Megan (Patrick) Green of Lexington, Ky, Jon Bezon of Alliance, Jodi (Charles) Schmidt of Macedonia, Oh., and Jill (Robert) Mason of Painesville Twp, Oh, ten great-grandchildren, Donald IV and John Peterson; Quentin, Logan and Wyatt Peters, Will and Jack Schmidt, Mary Katherine, Sarah Jane and Martha Lee McCarty; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy MacDonald, and Eleanor Jenkins, and one brother, Raymond Peterson.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Hugh Hookway officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Avenue. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
