Donald R. "Ray" Alton, age 79, of Alliance, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2013, at McCrea Manor.
He was born October 13, 1934, in Alliance, to Daniel Elmer Alton, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Scot) Alton.
A 1953 graduate of Alliance High School, Donald joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.
Donald was employed at the former 48 Insulation in Alliance and served ten years in Alliance public schools as a custodian.
He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, life member of BPO Elks No. 467, where he was honored as a past Elk of the Year and was active in Alliance Hot Stove League and the Alliance Booster Club.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Marian Spahlinger Benjamin of Mansfield; step-grandchildren, Timothy and James Spahlinger; and Cora Lynn Benjamin; brother, Daniel E. Alton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: wife, Barbara Spahlinger Alton, whom he married July 18, 1988 and who died March 17, 2010; and a brother, William S. Alton.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, immediately following an Elks service at 5 p.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the Elks Service.
