Donald M. Brown, age 79, of Alliance, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Canterbury Villa.
He was born August 15, 1933, in Somerton, Ohio, to Harry M. and Myrtle (Harris) Brown.
Donald was a 1952 graduate of Louisville High School.
He was a Korean Conflict veteran and served in the combat engineers, attached to the 28th Infantry Division and the 5th Infantry Division. He served in Germany in the European Theatre of Operations.
Donald retired in April 1997 from Alliance Machine Company with 39 years of service. Prior to that, he was employed by the Republic Steel Corp and Central Alloy District in Canton, Ohio. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 2361 America for 45 years, a member of the Alliance Area Labor Council, a member of the Alliance Area Democratic Club and a member of the Alliance Machine Company Athletic Association.
He enjoyed gardening, watching sporting events, attending the Alliance Machine retiree's activities and attending the Stumptown reunion.
Survivors include his son, Dale M. (Jenna) Brown; daughter, Susan L. Brown, both of Alliance; and sister, Nancy (Richard) Wild of Valparaiso, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Janet Brown, who passed away on September 19, 2000; brothers, Harry Francis Brown and Thomas A. Brown; and sister, Betty (Brown) Foster.
Services will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 and one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Mount Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Portage Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Rd., Ravenna, OH 44266.
