Donald E. Carter Sr.

Donald Ellas Carter Sr. age 89 of Alliance, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday May 19, 2004 at Crandall Medical Center.
Mr. Carter, Sr. was born September 7, 1914, in West Richfield, Ohio to Homer Wilbur and Laura Amanda (Newton) Carter. He graduated from Akron University with a degree in Chemistry where he was a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. Donald, Sr. was employed by Union Carbide in Cleveland and then in Bound Brook, New Jersey, until retiring.
He was active in the churches and communities in which he lived, serving as President of the Board of Education in Plainfield, NJ in 1965, a member of the First Baptist Church of Alliance, and Boy Scouts of America, Watchung Boy Scout Council, NJ. Mr. Carter, Sr. was very active in Boy Scouting, receiving the Silver Beaver Award for years of service, managing busloads of scouts from New Jersey to the Colorado Jamboree and Philmont Scout Ranch five times.
Survivors include his sister, Virginia F. Carter of West Richfield, Ohio, children, Wesley Newton (Nancy) Carter of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, William Bradford (Kim) Brown Jr. of Concord, New Hampshire, Donald Ellas (Deborah) Carter Jr. M.D., of Alliance, and Douglas Glenn Carter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Two step children also survive him, Peter (Cathy) Leech of California, and Judy (Donald) Collins of Virginia. He has ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Carter, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, and three wives; Elva (Dreisbach) Carter, Winifred (Banks) Brown Carter and Elizabeth (Brown) Leech Carter.
A Memorial Service will be held at Copeland Oaks in Bennett Chapel on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 10:00AM.
