Donald Alvin Egli, age 94, formerly of Alliance, died at his home in Columbus, surrounded by his family on Friday July 18, 2014.
He was born October 5, 1919 in Alliance, Ohio to Christian and Ethel (Dempsy) Egli.
A graduate of Alliance High School, Mr. Egli retired as a Superintendent from Alliance Structural.
Don was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday School.
A U. S. Army WWII veteran, Don entered with Battery C, 135 FA 37 Division National Guard then served with the 561st Artillery Special Unit. His tour of duty included Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Central Europe. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, European-African Medal, Sharp Shooter Award, and European-African Medal with 5 Bronze Stars.
Don was an avid golfer with 3 holes in one; and had volunteered in nursing homes for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Jane (Graham) Egli, whom he married December 17, 1941; daughters, Donna Lane of Columbus, Barb Candusso of Hilliard, son Jim (Becky) Egli of Alliance; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with his grandson, Pastor Dany M. Candusso officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors' choice.
