Donald R. Funkhouser

Donald R. Funkhouser, age 81, of Alliance, passed away at 1:40 a.m., Monday, September 21, 2015, at Community Care Center.
He was born February 21, 1934, at his home in Alliance, Ohio, to Roy and Hattie (Rittenhouse) Funkhouser and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
A 1952 graduate of Alliance High School, Donald was a maintenance supervisor with American Steel Foundry and retired with thirty-three years of service. He also volunteered with the Washington Township Fire Department for thirty-four years.
Donald was a lifetime member of Beechwood United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Conrad Masonic Lodge, Tadmor Shrine, Alliance Shrine Club of which he belonged to the "Go Jo Patrol" and flag unit and driver for Children's Transport Unit. He also belonged to the American Legion Post No. 166, and VFW Post No. 1036 of which he was a member of the honor guard.
Donald was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve - O.M.R.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Allmon) Funkhouser whom he married September 1, 1956; daughters, Debra (Michael) Burge of Alliance, and Diana Courtney (Kim Henderson) of Alliance; five grandsons, Don (Jennifer) Courtney, Jeremy (Ashley) Burge, Tony (Stephanie) Courtney, Jeffrey Burge and Timothy (Megan) Burge; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and siblings, Roy (Dode) June Hawkins, Floyd, Glen, Robert and Gene.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Miller of the Beechwood United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery.
