Donald L. "Don" Carrier, age 82 of Alliance, passed away at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Alliance Community Hospital with his family and loved ones by his side.
He was born April 7, 1924 in Sebring, Ohio to Elmer and Hattie (Kran) Carrier and was a lifelong area resident.
Don graduated from Sebring High School and was employed at E.W. Bliss in Salem, Alliance Machine and at Morgan Engineering for 30 years as an estimator, before retiring from East Manufacturing. He was also the co-owner of the former Wooden Shoe.
A U.S. Army veteran, Don had been stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking, and spending time with his church and family functions.
He was an active member of the First Church of God, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years.
He is survived by his wife, W. Jean (Hovermale) Carrier, whom he married Aug. 15, 1947; sister, Ruth (Edward) Braidic of Sebring; daughter, Diane (Joseph) Huffman of Alliance; grandchildren, Myndi (Joseph) Liebhart, Megan J. Huffman, John W. Huffman, Dan (Christina) Huffman; great-grandchildren, Taylor Liebhart, Hannah Liebhart, Colton Huffman, and Melvina Huffman; daughter, Vonnie Lynn Handy; many nieces and nephews, church family, and special friends, Ruth Baker and family of Salem.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Opal Coon, Augusta "Gussie" Weast, brother Junior Carrier, and great-grandson, Jamesen Liebhart.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the First Church of God with Pastor Larry Murphy officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
