Donald Marvin Lanham, age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 6:33 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Alliance Community Hospital.
Don was born Oct. 2, 1924, in East Rochester, Ohio, to Marvin and Lurene (Farber) Lanham.
He was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Army. As a member of the 82nd Airborne Glider Infantry, he disembarked from a canvas and plywood glider behind enemy lines in Holland and later fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
His United States Post Office career started as a rail mail carrier and ended as a window clerk at the former Mount Union branch.
He was a faithful member of First United Presbyterian Church for over 60 years with a special affection for the Church's Camp LiMRod which Erma and he helped get off the ground.
Don was a Lion's Club member for more than 30 years. As a Lion, he received honors for top rose salesman, Lion of the Year, tail twister, and the Melvin Jones Fellowship lifetime achievement award.
He kept busy in his retirement by volunteering at the hospital, church, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and the Duvall Home in Florida. He was also a life-long blood donor. He and Erma enjoyed camping across the country and made many friends along the way.
Don is survived by his best friend and wife of 61 years, Erma (Blazer) Lanham; children, Jane Kennett (John), Jim Lanham (Missy), and Judy Fetterolf; and grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Andrew (fiancée, Hayley), Claire, Emily, and Carly; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-laws, Mary Lanham and Frances Mumaw.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Paul Lanham, Betty McDole, and Ray Lanham; and his son-in-law, Scott Fetterolf.
Don was always quick with a joke and never complained. He was a truly humble man of God who enjoyed helping others. Many people were blessed to call him friend.
