Donald S. Stone, age 79 of Alliance, died at 7:00 a.m. Friday December 17, 2004 at Crandall Medical Center.
Mr. Stone was born May 27, 1925 in Alliance, Ohio to Shelley C. and Mildred (Watkins) Stone, and was a lifelong resident.
He graduated in 1944 from Alliance High School, received his B.A. from Mount Union College in 1948, and his Juris Doctorate from Akron College of Law in 1961.
Mr. Stone worked in the family business established by his father (Crescent Ice and Coal), while attending Law School from 1957-1961. He began his own practice in 1961, and also worked for the Stark County Legal Aid Society. His son Steve joined him in the practice in 1973, and they practiced law together, until Donald's retirement in 2000.
He was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church, Jaycees, a former member of the Alliance Rotary Club, member of BPOE #467, American Legion Post 166, Alliance, Stark County and Ohio State Bar Associations.
He was a former acting Judge in Alliance Municipal Court, and Past President of the Alliance Bar Association.
Mr. Stone served during W.W.II, in the U.S. Army Air Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. (Kotte) Stone, whom he married July 1, 1946, one son Stephen (Patricia) Stone of Alliance, one daughter Leslie (Dean) Swift of North Canton, two granddaughters Erin M. Stone and Kellie Swift, and one brother Dr. Shelley C. (Charlene) Stone of Ashville, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Richard and Robert Stone.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Ruggles officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donors' choice.
