Donald Wood Wartluft, age 85, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord at 6:20 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, embraced by his loving family.
He was born April 20, 1928 to Robert and Susan (Bricker) Wartluft and was an Alliance resident since 1960. Donald was a self-employed farmer. He was also employed by Transue & Williams for 29 years and retired in 1991.
Donald was a member of the Freeburg Church of the Brethren where he sang in the choir and also taught Sunday school classes for 43 years. He enjoyed wood working, making many treasures for his family whom he loved so much. Donald also enjoyed gardening and traveling with his loving wife, Emogene (Sefert) Wartluft, who preceded him in death in 2011 after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include his nine children, who will miss him dearly, Ed (Dodie) Wartluft of Alliance, Kevin (Paula) Wartluft of Damascus, Bettie (Bill) Cardinal of Sebring, Laurel Wartluft of Chicago, Don (Marilyn) Wartluft of Oklahoma, Marian Wartluft of Alliance, Cinda (Joseph) Felkner Florida, Len (Joannie) Wartluft of Alliance and Janet (Kevin) Longanecker of Kent; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd (Joan) Wartluft; and two sisters, Mary Jane Lucas and Bette Martellaro.
He was also preceded in death by infant daughter, Cheryl Lynn; his parents; three brothers and three sisters.
A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held at Freeburg Church of the Brethren with Mike Zellers officiating. Interment will be at Freeburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Ave., Suite 106, Alliance, OH, 44601.
