Doris K Ruth

Doris (Karlen) Ruth, age 87, of Alliance, passed away at 12:01 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center.
She was born April 30, 1929, in Marlboro, Ohio, to Oscar and Velma (Hoover) Karlen.
A 1947 graduate of Marlboro High School, Doris was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
Doris was previously employed by Morgan Engineering Company and Jack and Joy Shops, and was a homemaker and excellent seamstress.
She was a member of the Marlington Alumni Association, Alliance Senior Citizens Center, Science Hill Historical Society, YWCA of Alliance, Aviator Sports Boosters and the Belleflower Garden Club.
Doris was an ardent supporter of Alliance High School, University of Mount Union, Ohio State, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The lady with an everlasting smile, she was known as the "Cookie Lady" and called Grandma by Alliance High School athletes for 40 years.
Survivors include her husband, Robert T. Ruth of 63 years whom she married October 18, 1953; daughter, Rhonda (Dwight) Kress; son, Robert A. Ruth; grandchildren, Jill (Larry) Hoffman and Kelly (Tom) Baab; great-grandchildren, Allison, Joseph and Abigail Hoffman, and Belle, Ciera, Kodey and Zayne Trent; siblings, Jane (Eugene) Stoffer, Alice Moore, Anna Gambone, Jack Slider, Corey Evans, Don Karlen and Dwight Karlen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Roy, Jay, and Wayne Karlen and Jim Slider.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016, at First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. James K. McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 30, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
