Doris J. Skipper

Doris Jane (McKenzie) Skipper, age 92, of Alliance, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born October 21, 1925 in Alliance, Ohio to Alva R. McKenzie and Zetta B. (Sheehan) McKenzie.
A June 1943 graduate of Alliance High School, Mrs. Skipper worked at Steel Equipment Specialist from 1978-1986, and for the Stark County Prosecutors Office from 1990-2002.
She was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Auxiliary, Order Silver Trefoil (Girl Scouts) and charter member. Doris received the Golden Rule Award (volunteer victim advocate), volunteered as a victim advocate with the Municipal court from 1990-1997, and from 1997-2002 was a staff member at the Victim Witness Division of the Stark County Prosecutors office.
She was a Girl Scout Leader/Consultant for 16 years, and the Girl Scout Leader/Trainer; and member of the Girl Scouts of America for more than 50 years.
A member of the Vine Street United Methodist Church, Doris loved gardening, flowers, and birds, especially hummingbirds. She was an accomplished seamstress, and loved to rescue cats.
Survivors include daughter, Lynne Bowen of Sarasota, Florida; son, David Skipper of Warren; grandchildren Sherry Jensen, Jody Hicks, Danielle Skipper and Matthew Skipper; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald McKenzie; daughter, Janice K. Carlile; and her husband, Kenneth D. Skipper, whom she married March 17, 1946, and who died October 14, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Russell L. Cowden Jr. officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Stark and Wayne County, or Girl Scouts of America.
