Dorothy J. Severance, age 88, of Alliance, passed away on her husband's birthday, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at her home.
She was born November 22, 1922 in Alliance to Edwin and Emily (Bichsel) Gfeller and was a lifelong resident.
During the 1940's, Dorothy worked at Amour's, during the 1950's she and her late husband had a radio store on Main Street and she worked as a beautician.
Dorothy worked as a Clerk at the former Bud's Drug Store and was the owner of Golden Gate Wine and Carry-Out for 20 years. She was a member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ, and VFW.
Dorothy would do anything for anyone; she had a soft spot for people, but was strong willed. She took her friends, family and grandchildren anywhere and everywhere. She was very organized with everything she did; she loved the color pink and enjoyed collecting various things.
Survivors include her son, Jerry (Brenda) Severance of Alliance, grandsons, Robert W. (Vida) Severance of Round Lake, Il., David Len (Bonnie) Severance of Alliance, granddaughters Brenda Jayne Wasmire of Alliance, Brandy J. (Rick) Peloso of Alliance, eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Georgia Gfeller; sisters, Betty Gorby of Tucson, Arizona, Joann (Bob) Shively of North Benton, and Lucille (Pete) Rice of North Benton.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Roland "Sonny" Gfeller, and her husband, Gerald A. Severance, whom she married Oct. 4, 1942 and who died March 2, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
