Dr. Daniel "Dan" Kibler, age 92, of Alliance, passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Aultman Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1924 in East Palestine, Ohio to Robert and Anna (Haupt) Kibler.
An outstanding student in the class of 1942 of East Palestine High School, Dan was a proud W.W.II veteran having served with the United States Navy Hospital Corp from 1943-1946. He was stationed in the Great Lakes, Brooklyn Naval Hospital, and New Caledonia. He is an alumnus of Mount Union College, class of 1950 and was a member of the ATO fraternity. Dr. Kibler attended medical school at Ohio State University, Class of 1955 and interned with the Youngstown Hospital Association.
Dan entered family practice in Alliance in 1957, retiring in 1991. He provided School Physician and Team Doctor Services for Mount Union College from 1958 to 1998.
In 1985, Dan was named President of the Medical Staff of Alliance City Hospital. He also served on the council of Stark County Medical Society for three years and in 1998 received an award for "Special Recognition for Outstanding Accomplishments". He was a member of the Ohio State Medical Association where he was continuation Medical Education surveyor; American Medical Society, and American Academy of Family Practice where he was a board member.
Dan was a member of Regina Coeli Parish, the Alliance Country Club, and active member of the Alliance Shade Tree Commission since 1988. He served as the Alliance representative on the Stark Parks Board for three years. Dan was named "Citizen of the Year" in 2004 by the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Scott Rainsberger Kibler, whom he married June 29, 1979; stepson, John (Mary) Rainsberger, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, step-daughter-in-law, Michelle Rainsberger of Fairfield, Connecticut; four grandchildren, Beth Edmondson, Timothy Rainsberger, William Rainsberger, and Scott Rainsberger; brothers, Dr. John "Jack" Kibler of Columbus, Ohio, Kenneth Kibler of Pinellas Park, Florida, and Donald Kibler of East Palestine, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Kibler, Robert Kibler, sister, Dorothy Kibler Mercer, and stepson, William Rainsberger.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Noon Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Regina Coeli Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Friends may call from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Dr. Dan Kibler impacted many lives through his devotion, thoughtfulness and care.
