Earl T. Day, age 82, of Marlboro, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
He was born March 14, 1929, in Elkins, West Virginia, to the late Isaac C. and Ourtilia May (Mallow) Day.
Earl attended the Marlboro Assembly of God and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After 40 years of service, Earl retired from Union Metal Manufacturing in Canton. He was a member of the Conrad Masonic Lodge No. 271 F&AM and also a 32nd Degree Mason and Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. Earl was best known for his love of bluegrass music and his Christian recitation storytelling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mamion Geneva (Bell) Day, with whom he was united in marriage February 25, 1950; daughters, Barbara 'Bobbi' (Tom) Hoover of Marlboro, Deborah (Tom) Dysle of East Canton, and Donna (Pete) Solvey of Waynesburg; son, Daniel I. (June) Day; 16 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and many others who loved and knew him as grandpa; sisters, Rosetta Violet (Cecil) Pingley of Amherst, Oh, and Betty May (Paul) Cook, of Louisville, Oh; brothers, Leonard Mycles 'Mike' (Emma) Day and David Cecil (Wilda) Day, both of Elkins, WV; and aunt Iva Marstiller, of Dailey, WV.
Earl was preceded in death by son, Earl T. Day, Jr.; 10 brothers, Lester, Gordon, Baxter, Carl, Clyde, Frank, Glen, Homer, Nevin and Gerald 'Whitey' Day; and five sisters, Delphia Humbert, Zona Franck, Leerenna Everhart, Gertrude White and Geraldine 'Susan' Cook.
Services will be held at Noon, Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Marlboro Assembly of God with Pastor Dave Hohlbaugh and Pastor Jack Taylor co-officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Masonic services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
