Earl C. Thurmond Sr., departed this life Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at 12:20 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital after a long illness.
Earl was born October 11, 1934, in Brownsville, Tennessee, the third child of Joseph Cecil and Ossie Bell (Hess) Thurmond Sr., and was 76 years young.
Earl came to Ohio at the age of 18. He took a job with Don Ho and Cartwright Construction. It was then that he met and married his wife of 54 years, Mary Lee Thurmond, nee Jones, who survives him.
Also left to cherish his memories are his children, Ronald (Ronnie) A. Jones, Earl C. (Rocky) Thurmond, Jr., Earlene (Joseph) Dailey and Charlietha E. Thurmond; his grandchildren, Cory Blue, Nicole Carter, Jolean, Justin and Talitha Dailey, Cortez C. (Contessa) Thurmond, Cortezya (Charles) Threat, Ariel Marie (Steven) DeVine, Joseph Earl Taylor Thurmond, Nicole and Marshelle McElroy, Tamar Renee Lawson, Brian, Zachary, Jordan and Earl C. (Quido) Thurmond, III. Also surviving are a brother, Joseph (Dora) Thurmond, Sr.; a sister, Mary Lucille Smith; sisters-in-law, Willie Mae, Catherine, Helen, Viola, Marilyn, Connie and Bobby Jones; brothers-in-law, Clifford (Denise) and Jerome (Jerry) Jones; step-brothers, William and Robert Jarman, Collier and R.E. Banks and step-sister, Anna Mae (Clifford) Glynn.
Earl has 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends; and a very special cousin, Mr. David L. Thurmond.
Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by sisters, Rosa B. and June Allen Halliburton; a brother, James Lee Thurmond; brothers-in-law, Leoarn and John T. Jones; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Evangelist Maria Johnson officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
