Edith K. "Edda" Thorpe, age 84, of Alliance, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic.
She was born February 24, 1925, in Vienna, Austria, to George Langhanns and Rosa (Heintz) Langhanns.
Edda was educated in Austria and was employed by the Vienna Opera Company as a ballerina before her marriage to Thomas William Thorpe on October 30, 1945.
She was a former member of the "Sisters" organization for widows. Edda was an excellent knitter and seamstress, and loved to do ceramics. She was a great ethnic cook, loved to bowl and was a former member of a bowling league at the College Plaza Lanes.
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia (R. Patrick) Hilles of Alliance; one granddaughter, Sharron; and a great-grandson, Colin.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband who died November 10, 1990; and one brother, George Langhanns.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with funeral services following immediately after the visitation. Services will be officiated by Rev. Hoyte Wilhelm. A private interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
