Edna Mae “Polly” Waggamon, age 95, passed away at 8:25 p.m., October 10, 2019, after a short illness, while at Salem Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of the Copeland Oaks Community, Sebring OH, for the last 25 years.
Edna Mae was born March 12, 1924, to Peter and Bessie (Gartrell) Pollock, in New Philadelphia, OH, the 8th of 11 children. Polly graduated from the Former Massillon Community Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She earned a BA, from Otterbein College, Westerville OH in 1952, and worked as a registered nurse.
Polly met her husband, Glenn Waggamon at Otterbein College. They were married May 25, 1952. Polly was a Member of Kappa Phi Omega sorority, and served as secretary of the National Science Fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Delta, at Otterbein.
Preceding Polly in death were her parents; husband, Glenn (September 15,2008); three sisters, Mildred Geiser, Ruth Mizer and Edith Walters; and seven brothers, Curtis, Paul, Peter Jr., H. Robert, Edward, David, and Wayne Pollock.
Polly is survived by her children: Sybil (Peter) Baker of Columbus OH; grandchildren, Alex (Devon) Baker and Gabi (Tony) Piteo; great granddaughter, Daniella. Jill (Joe) Petryczkiewycz of Milwaukee, WI; granddaughter, Tasha. Philip (Michelle) Waggamon of Kenton, OH; grandchildren, Evan (Cynthia) Waggamon and Ashton Waggamon. Dennis (Nancy) Waggamon, Massillon, OH; granddaughters, Kirsten (Seth) Kumpf, Amanda (Nathan) Glomb.
Edna was a member of Alliance Christ United Methodist Church, Canton District United Methodist Women and was a past president of the Church Women United. Polly created and loved presenting Biblical Monologues of Women of the Bible and was United Methodist Woman of the year during her tenure.
A published writer and poet, Polly wrote both verse and lyrics. She used her talents being active in the Copeland Chorale and Madrigal Productions, coordinated programing and was a guest artist at the Copeland TV Channel Studio. Polly also served on the Eastern Stark Co. Mental Health Board and Domestic Violence Center and volunteered at the Red Cross.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. November 9, 2019 at Bennett Chapel, Copeland Oaks, 800 S. 15th St., Sebring, OH. Family will receive family and friends at a reception and visitation immediately following the service. Private interment will be held.
