Edward M. Schuller

Edward M. "Gus" Schuller, age 82, of Alliance, went Home to be with his Heavenly Father at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Bel-Air Care Center.
He was born March 23, 1928, in Alliance, Ohio, to Martin and Mary (Seiler) Schuller.
A graduate of Alliance High School and Canton Actual Business College, Gus was a watchmaker, an accountant, an office manager at George Waikem Ford, and a comptroller at Portage Country Club in Akron.
He attended Alliance First Friends Church and was a member of AARP and the "60+" group at his church. He was known around town as the "Mint Man" because he handed out "Life Savers" to all he encountered. He was a former golfer and an avid gardener and birdwatcher. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a man of faith and unwavering integrity.
Gus was a United States Army veteran, having received the Korean Service Medal and two Bronze Stars. He had a heart of gold and would give anyone the shirt off his back.
Survivors include his loving, devoted wife Mary B. (Leishman) Schuller, whom he married February 6, 1953; four children, Nancy (Mike) Harsh and Michael Edward Schuller, both of Alliance, Mary Ann (Mike) Brown of Homeworth and Gary (Susan) Schuller of West Salem; eight grandchildren, Joe (Nicole) Harsh, Andy (Missy) Harsh, Shannon Harsh, Eric, Ryan and Jeremy Brown, Adam and John Schuller, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and Bill Schuller and sisters, Hilda Bugara and Joanne (Honey) Gallagher.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Alliance First Friends Church with Pastor Rick Sams officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Private interment with military honors will be held at Highland Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Love in Action" ministry at Alliance First Friends Church, 1307 W. State St., Alliance, OH 44601. This personified Gus as his life was truly one of "love in action."
