Edward L. Russell, age 77, of Alliance, passed away at 2:58 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 10, 1938, in Alliance, Ohio, to Fred M. and Mildred (Hawkins) Russell and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
Ed had retired from Transue and Williams Forge after 32 years, and also had an upholstery business, Russell's Tops and Covers.
His memberships included the Christopher Columbus Club, Dante Club, American Legion, VFW, William Penn Club, and Maroon Club at which he served as Vice President.
He was an avid golfer, gardener and bowler, having bowled a perfect game and was a member of the Stark County Bowlers Hall of Fame.
Ed enjoyed fishing, and playing Bocce and Cornhole.
Of all the activities in his life, Ed enjoyed his grandchildren most of all, spending time with them and being involved in their activities.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on the USS Talladega.
Survivors include his children Jeffrey Russell (Lori Lutch) of Naples, Florida, Holly Mick (John Bush) of Homeworth and Gwynne (Jeremy) Thomas of Homeworth; siblings, Lowell (Donna) Russell of Massillon, Dick (Marj) Russell of Royal Oak, Michigan, Wanda Crabtree of Salem, William (Tana) Russell of Alliance and Doris Miller of Hanoverton; six grandchildren, Chad Mick, Dylan Mick, Jerian Thomas, Jonah Thomas, Jaci Thomas and Jeremiah Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, of 52 years, Fay Ann (Shoup) Russell, whom he married March 4, 1961 and who died July 23, 2013.
He will be sorrowfully missed by a great number of friends and family.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Dr. David W. Bloor officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2015 and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
