Edward Shanks, Sr

April 29, 1935 — October 1, 2006

Edward Shanks Sr., age 71 of Alliance, died unexpectedly due to heart failure at 1:28 a.m. Oct. 1, 2006. He was born April 29, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ray and Estella (Weir) Shanks and lived most of his life in Alliance. Edward graduated from Alliance High School and was formerly employed by the Alliance Review and Canton Repository. He was the former Police Chief for Lexington Twp., and former Deputy Sheriff for Portage County. Mr. Shanks was a member of the Conrad Masonic Lodge #271 F&AM, past Worshipful Master, and 32 degree Mason. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and researching genealogy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Survivors include his wife, Marie (Scott) Shanks, whom he married July 1, 1955; one daughter, Carolyn (James) McCune of Louisville; two sons, Edward (Linda) Shanks Jr. of Hudson, and Richard (Linda) Shanks of Marlboro; six grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher McCune, Jennifer and Bobby Shanks, Freda Shanks, and Hope (Courtney) Hall; one great-grandson, Kameron Hall; and one brother, Robert (Martha) Shanks of Orlando, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Adkins of Aldersgate United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Stark County Division, 4916 Hills and Dales Road, Canton, OH 44708.
