Edwin G. Baker, 85, of Windermere, Florida, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in Orlando.
Eddie was born August 26, 1926, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of the late Glenn P. and Mabel Duncan Baker. He grew up in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School, before serving in the US Army, European Theater, during WWII. After the war, Eddie owned a construction company with his father, becoming an expert brick mason. He later attended Kent State University, graduating in June 1955. Eddie married Loma Jean Williams on September 16, 1961 in Granville, Ohio and the couple later moved to Mountainside, New Jersey. Eddie went on to enjoy a 30-year career with American Electric Power in the human resources/benefits division. He worked in New York City and then in Columbus, Ohio.
Eddie had a great passion for life. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Most especially, Eddie left a legacy of love and devotion to his family and friends. His 50-year marriage to Jean was described by those who knew them as a true love story. His unconditional love and support enriched the lives of so many.
He is survived by his wife, Loma Jean, of Windermere, FL, his son, Glenn (Jeannie) of Windermere, FL, his daughter, Suzanne Baker McKinnon (Peter) of Memphis, TN, and his grandchildren, Erica and Ed Baker of Windermere, and Laura and Jack McKinnon of Memphis. He is also survived by his brothers, James N. Baker (Marlene) of Anthem, AZ, and Duane Baker (Janice) of Alliance, OH; and his sister Glenna Zingg (Warner) of Alliance, OH; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 South Union Ave, Alliance, OH. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Penny Magee, Eddie's niece, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
