Edwin Paul "Jiggs" Cassidy, age 91, of Alliance died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at his home.
He was born October 26, 1916 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Joseph and Margaret (White) Cassidy.
Edwin was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He attended St. Joseph grade school and graduated from Alliance High School. He worked for Cleveland Alcoa, TaylorCraft of Alliance and the Ford Motor Company of Canton from which he retired.
In his younger days, the whole family was involved in dancing; ballroom and tap dancing which was a family tradition. His father Joseph and brother, Bill, founded the Cassidy Dance Studios and later, his sister, Sis Schneider had her own dance studio with her daughter Kristy Wheatley.
He was a member of the Superior Motor Home Association which was involved in traveling to various locations for their annual reunions and had been a longtime member of the Alliance Elks Lodge # 467.
Survivors include his daughter, Laura (Sam) Raynor of Salem; son, Edwin G. Cassidy of Alliance; sister, Margeret (Sis) Schneider of Alliance; grandchildren, Tracy (Gary) Blough, Sheri (Trent) Bartolotti, Monique Newman and Shaun (Autumn) Cassidy; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Lucille (Hartzell) Cassidy and Velma (Grimm) Cassidy; six brothers, Paul, Bode, Honey, Cliff, Bobby and Bill; sister, Mamey; and his parents, Joseph and Margaret (White) Cassidy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Feicht officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Cassaday Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
