A beloved mother of five children and grandmother of two "danced" her way into heaven one day after her 89th birthday.
Eileen Ann (Boyce) Haidet, who had no formal dance training but danced for the sheer enjoyment of it, died Wednesday at Bel Air Care Center after a bout with pneumonia. Before her health deteriorated, Mrs. Haidet danced at the nursing home and at the Deerfield Community Center. She always said, "thank you" to her caregivers. She answered a mother's highest calling by making sure that her children and grandchildren knew they were loved unconditionally.
Mrs. Haidet made her home for more than 50 years on West Harrison Street in Alliance, where she was called "the ice cream lady" in the 1970s, as she handed out hand-dipped ice cream cones to her children's friends. Another nickname: "Sweet Eileen," because others sensed the goodness of her heart.
She and her husband, Lavere L. Haidet, lived a few blocks from his longtime employer, Transue & Williams Steel Forging. Mr. Haidet and his twin brother were T&W retirees. He died in 1996, after 49 years of marriage.
Mrs. Haidet was mainly a homemaker but had previously worked at O'Neil's Department Store and at Alliance Manufacturing Co. while her husband served the U.S. Army in World War II. She was an Alliance High School graduate. The last survivor among seven children of Huram and Amanda Boyce, Mrs. Haidet thoroughly enjoyed visiting cousins and other relatives at the annual Boyce family reunion at Silver Park in Alliance.
She leaves all five of her children: Donald, Carol Kidd, Sandy Peate, all of Alliance; Kenny, near Akron; and Janice Morse near Cincinnati; grandchildren, Ryan Haidet and Missy Fouse, both near Akron; and great-granddaughters, Summer Fouse and Daisy Fouse both near Akron. She also leaves son-in-laws Christopher Peate and Bob Kidd, both of Alliance; Ryan's fiancée, Leah Mary Machek, near Akron; and Janice's partner, Michael Hisle of Cincinnati. Kenny's wife, the former Patsy Hayes, died previously.
The family would like to thank the Bel Air staff for their kindness and professionalism.
