Eileen J. Hartenstein, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 2:32 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born January 26, 1923, in Alliance, Ohio, to John and Louise (Urig) Aebi. Eileen grew up in North Benton and moved back later.
Eileen was a Sebring High School graduate and went on to Alliance City Hospital School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse. She worked in OB and the Nursery at Alliance City Hospital until her retirement in 1985.
A member of the Chapel in Marlboro and it's Friendship Sunday school class, she was also involved in the Jolly Pilgrims.
Survivors include her children, Nancy (Jack) Raker of Marion, NC, Marilyn (Robert) Andrie of Homeworth, Susan (Michael) Decker of Alliance, Joyce (Joby) Wetzel of Irmo, SC, Thomas (Maureen) Hartenstein of St. Paul, Or., and James (Stephanie) Hartenstein of Alliance; 13 grandchildren, Todd, Ryan and Seth Andrie, Sarah (Dan) Cappel and Benjamin (Shanna) Decker, Kathryn and Joby Wetzel, Andrew (Sarah), Michael (Abbey), Samuel and Carly Hartenstein, Leigh Ann Moore and Jared (Frankee) Hartenstein; eight great-grandchildren, Jameson, Caden, Taryn, Wesley, Reed, Clark, Carina, and Jayden; siblings, Robert Aebi of Beloit, Williard Aebi of Mount Vernon and Elmer Aebi of Alliance; and many nieces and nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, A. Dale Hartenstein whom she married November 26, 1943 and who died May 23, 2011 and a sister, Virginia Reed.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Cochran officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
