Elizabeth Belle (Eberhard) Turkle, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011, Roselawn Terrace.
She was born January 22, 1920, at Alliance City Hospital to John Edward and Frances Elizabeth (Alexander) Eberhard and was a life-long Alliance resident. She attended Liberty Elementary School and State Street Junior High School. A 1939 graduate of Alliance High School, she also reigned as Homecoming Queen.
Elizabeth married Edgar Harold "Ted" Turkle, Jr. in 1941 and later became a partner in the family business of Cassaday and Turkle Funeral Home. For many years Elizabeth was active in the community as a member of several organizations including the Alliance Woman's Club and the Town and Country Garden Club. She was also a founding member of Coterie Club. A member of the former First United Methodist Church, she served as a volunteer in the interfaith daycare program. Over the years, she was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross, a member of the Parent Teachers Association and a mentor to many children at the Alliance Children's Home.
She is survived by sons, Edgar "Ted" Turkle and wife, Linda Gordon of Newark, Del., Tyler Turkle and wife, Jesslyn Krouskroup of Tallahassee, Fla., and Steve Cunningham and wife, Lynn of Denver, Colo. Also surviving her is a sister, Elvira "Sis" Leister of Alliance; grandsons, Ian Turkle and wife Amy of Hyde Park Vt.; Joseph "J.B." Turkle and Jason Turkle, both of Youngstown, Evan Turkle of San Francisco, Calif., Owen Turkle of Tallahassee, Fla., granddaughter, Lane Turkle of Tallahassee, Fla.; great granddaughters, Rowan and Lyra Turkle of Hyde Park, Vt.; nieces, Trudy Halley and husband, Ken of Ft. Collins, Colo., B.J. Sheffield Leister of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nephews, John Eberhard and wife, Pat of Mount Dora, Fla, Jan Eberhard and wife, Carol of Elmira NY, Eric Eberhard and wife, Lindee of Normandy Park, Wa., and Craig Leister and wife, Susan of Upper Arlington, Oh. Elizabeth is also survived by her very dear daughters-in-law, Ann Turkle of Johnson, Vt., Nancy Bokesch and husband, Randy of Canfield and Sally Searles and husband, Robert of North Wolcott, Vt.; and special friend and caregiver, Teresa Wayne of Alliance.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Harold "Ted" Turkle, Jr. who died December 29, 1984; parents; brother, Edward Eberhard; son, Joseph Turkle; brother-in-law, Jack Leister; nephew, Jackson "Jackie" Leister; and loving companion of twenty years, Kevin Cunningham.
Grateful acknowledgement is also given to Alterra Sterling House and Roselawn Terrace, both of Alliance, for their years of loving care and attention.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
