Jessie Elizabeth "Betty" Boyd Flood age 91, of Sebring, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. She was born November 17, 1917 in Alliance, to John Donaldson Boyd and Elizabeth (Davis) Boyd and was a lifelong area resident. Elizabeth was a graduate of Alliance High School, a 1947 graduate of Mount Union College and taught school in Alliance schools, teaching at South Lincoln, North Lincoln and Morgan Elementary schools. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member and past president of the Alliance Women's Club, member of Welkins Club, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the Board of Interfaith Day Care; where she also worked. Survivors include her sons, James B. Flood of Locust Grove, Virginia and John H. Flood of Alliance; grandson, James Flood; granddaughter, Shannon Bridgham; and five great-grandchildren, all of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James B. Flood who died March 1, 1945 at Iwo Jima. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Jim McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from Noon - 1 p.m. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
