Ellen Durell, age 84, of Alliance, died at 1:11 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Community Care Center.
She was born in Alliance to Lester C. and Mary Ethel (Benedum) McGowan.
Mrs. Durell was a graduate of Alliance High School.
She was employed by the former Turner Drug Store and was the branch manager of First National Bank on N. Union Ave. before retiring from the accounting department at Transue & Williams.
Mrs. Durell was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and picking apples in the spring.
Survivors include her husband, Quentin L. Durell, whom she married on March 11, 1945; daughter, Nancy Doyle of Alliance; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Zetta (Robert) Smith of Weeki Wachee, FL.; two brothers, William (Judy) McGowan of Strongsville, O. and Charles (Ann) McGowan of VA.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Robert, David and Gary; two sisters Helen Marie Shaffer and Mary Pew; and one brother Herbert 'Bud' McGowan.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
