Elvin Springer

Elvin O. Springer, age 88, of Alliance, died at 6:35 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at his home.
He was born February 17, 1922 in Alliance, Ohio, to Lindsay Lawrence and Mary Pearl (Keller) Springer.
Elvin graduated from Alliance High School in the class of 1940. Employed as a senior systems engineer by Sperry Univac (UNISYS), he retired in 1985.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and was also a member of the BPO Elks No. 467, Promise Keepers, AARP, Canton Eagles, Alliance Senior Center, and UCT (United Commercial Travelers). He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, dancing and traveling.
Elvin was a United States Army Veteran having served as a Tech Corporal during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Armstrong) Springer, whom he married February 14, 1953; daughter, Sheila S. (Daniel W.) Gard of Alliance; sons, Edward L. (Monetta) Springer of Canton and Thomas J. Springer of Alliance; and three granddaughters, Rebecca (Ryan) Russell, Jessica Gard and Julia Springer.
Elvin was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Brinton and Atlee Springer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2010 at First Christian Church with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 1141 W. Beech St., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
