Emogene Irene (Sefert) Wartluft, age 81, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord at 10:20 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, embraced by her loving family.
She was born November 1, 1929, in Alliance, to William Horace and Agnes Ella (Starkey) Sefert and was an Alliance resident since 1960.
Jean was a graduate of Louisville High School and was employed as a cafeteria worker for 21 years.
Jean was a member of the Freeburg Church of the Brethren, Parent Teachers Association, 4-H, and the sewing club. She greatly loved her family, and also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, traveling and meeting new people. She was active in her church and with family activities.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Wartluft, whom she married June 6, 1948; children, Ed (Dodie) Wartluft of Alliance, Kevin (Paula) Wartluft of Damascus, Bettie (Bill) Cardinal of Sebring, Laurel Sue Wartluft of Alliance, Don (Sherry) Wartluft of Skiatook, Ok., Marian Wartluft of Beloit, Cinda (Joseph) Felkner of Bethlehem, Pa., Len (Joannie) Wartluft of Alliance and Janet (Kevin) Longanecker of Kent; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Cheryl Lynn; brother, Dale Sefert; and sister, Janice Linebaugh.
A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held at Freeburg Church of the Brethren with Mike Zellers officiating. Interment will be at Freeburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Ave., Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
