Esther "Pat" (Calabria) Berlin, age 95, of Salem, passed away at 2:45 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2015, at Essex of Salem I.
She was born April 4, 1920, in Alliance, Ohio, to John and Maria (Vescia) Calabria.
Esther was a 1937 graduate of Alliance High School and also Alliance Business College. She was a legal and medical secretary until her retirement at the age of 78.
Esther was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She also was a life member of the Alliance Elks and a founding member of "The Concern" in Sebring. She donated countless hours organizing and cooking for various fundraising benefits in Alliance, Sebring and Toledo. She loved to bake wedding and birthday cakes for friends and family.
Survivors include her son, John C. (Christine) Berlin; two grandsons, John Paul Berlin and Peter Berlin, all of Salem; and many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles D. Berlin, whom she married November 17, 1945 and who passed away September 22, 2004; son, Jeffrey A. Berlin who passed away May 27, 2015; sister, Rose Bender; and brothers, Peter Calabria and Paul Calabria.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Matthew Mankowski officiating. Interment of her cremains will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alliance at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church's St. Vincent De Paul Society 427 E. Broadway St., Alliance, OH 44601.
