Esther J. Ball Hamlin, age 83, of Alliance, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
She was born May 31, 1926 in Salem, Ohio to Monroe M. and Ocie E. Tuttle.
A 1945 graduate of Salem High School, Esther served as secretary for Ronald Webber, president of Mount Union College and later was employed for Alliance Schools as secretary for Rockhill Elementary for 23 years till her retirement in 1986.
She was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Avon Early Circle and the Crusaders Class. She also was a member of the Alliance Shade Tree Commission, the Alliance Women's Club, past president of the Alliance Garden Club, active in the continuous learning program at Mount Union College, past MYF Fellowship leader at Christ United Methodist Church, member of the board of the Alliance Community Concert, active in Mount Union College Women's Club and served as booth treasurer for many years. She liked to square dance, work in her garden, and go hiking.
Survivors include her husband William Hamlin whom she married, September 25, 2005; sons, Richard D. Ball of Florida and James M. (Deborah S.) Ball of Alliance; and daughter, Rebecca L. (Ball) (Michael D.) Tigelman of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt and uncle, Walter and Jennie Freet, who raised her from early childhood; first husband James S. Ball who died August 12, 1995; and sister, Virginia Bair.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyte Wilhelm officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
