Esther Kirkbride Montgomery

August 31, 1907 — November 7, 2008

Esther Josephine Kirkbride Montgomery, age 101, of Deerfield, surrounded by her family, was called to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2008. Esther lived 80 years on the farm until the moment she was called home.
Esther was born at the Kirkbride farm in North Benton on August 31, 1907, to Willis and Mary Kirkbride (Gilbert), where she grew up with three sisters and two brothers. In 1910, the Kirkbride family moved from North Benton to Deerfield, where seeds of strong Christian faith, love of family, education and pride in community were cultivated.
Graduating from Kent Normal (Kent State) in 1927 with a degree in education, Esther taught third, fifth, and seventh grades. After retirement, she continued to be a great teacher who touched lives with her kindness, love, and enthusiasm to educate.
Baptised and confirmed in the Deerfield United Methodist Church, Esther was an active and faithful member her entire life.
She married John A. Montgomery on December 2, 1932. Together with love, devotion and perseverance they built a strong foundation for future generations. John and Esther had one son, Donald James Montgomery, They celebrated 64 years of marriage before John was called to Glory. Also gone before are a son, Donald J. Montgomery; brother, Glenn Kirkbride and Robert Kirkbride: sister, Hariett Tabler, Wilma Patrick and Alice Montgomery.
Surviving are family members, Margaret Montgomery of Deerfield; Brad, Annette and Bradli Montgomery of North Benton; Doug, Kyla, Katelyn and William Frautschy of Dover; Mike Yarian and Kara Montgomery of Brentwood, Tennessee.
A private family service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartzell Cemetery. The family welcomes friends and relatives to join us at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Deerfield United Methodist Church. Dinner to follow.
Pastor Douglas Beggs will officiate. Any gifts may be given to the Deerfield United Methodist Church.
