Eugene L. "Gene" Grubb, age 77, of Uniontown, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 10:19 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1938, in Alliance, Ohio, to Lewis and Opal (Martin) Grubb.
Gene was a 1956 graduate of Alliance High School and attended the University of Mount Union College. He had been a former Director of Maintenance at Alliance City Schools with 30 years of Service.
A member of Christ United Methodist Church, Gene served as a church usher, member of the Friendship II Sunday school class and was instrumental in establishing the church concession at Carnation Days in the Park. He was a former member of Lake Grange, Lexington Township Fire Department, past president of the Carnation Festival board and board member and past president of the Alliance Lions Club and a member of the Alliance Elks Lodge No. 467. Gene shot fireworks as a professional pyro technician for more than 50 years, beginning with the Alliance 4th of July show and ending 50 years later with the Carnation Festival.
Gene was a University of Mount Union and Ohio State Buckeyes fan; loved catering, cooking BBQ ribs, working in his garden and flower beds and making many wood working items for his family. He was a Grandpa who loved his time watching his grandchildren in activities and sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Carol (Evans) Grubb, whom he married October 12, 1971; son, Thomas (Tamara) Grubb of Canton; three daughters, Carol (Evan) Veldhuizen of North Canton, Michelle (Mark) Fedor of Hartville and Heidi (Mark) Gaines of Siler City, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, Jordan (Bethany) Grubb, Megan (Michael) Graening, Laurie (Justin) Ferrel, Cory (Kim) Veldhuizen, Tyler (Arliss) Veldhuizen, and Kelsey Veldhuizen, Taylor, Logan and Amanda Fedor and Alyssa and Ella Gaines; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Loretta (Bruce) Cameron of Virginia; and two brothers, Virgil (Nada) Grubb of Minerva and Dale (Donna) Grubb of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-grandson, Amos Grubb.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Christ United Methodist Church in Alliance with the Rev. Stephanie Lee and Rev. L. Chris Martin officiating Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Interment will be at St. Jacobs Cemetery.
