Eugene "Gene" Castina, age 74, of Alliance, died unexpectedly at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at Gene was born November 11, 1932 in Toby, PA to Lawrence and Lena (Orlandi) Castina and was a resident of Alliance for most of his life.
Mr. Castina attended Alliance High School and was employed by Morgan Engineering as a template maker for 32 years, later retiring from the Alliance City Waterworks and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the property committee, Club 55 and Mens Bible Study, and served as custodian. He also was a former Boy Scout Master of Troop 57 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church; member of the Dante Alighieri Society and was the former corresponding secretary for over 40 years, member of Mended Hearts, Alliance Democrat Club and Morgan Retirees.
Gene enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and traveling with the Alliance High School Band when his kids were in high school.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Peg" (Williams) Castina, whom he married Oct. 25, 1952; two sons, Ronald (Jill) Castina of Alliance, and David (Vicky) Castina of Kennett Sq., Pa., daughters Vicki (James) Wiggs of Alliance, Deborah (Dennis) Rhome of Alliance, and Susan (Tom) Dimit of Alliance; grandchildren Tony, Angie and Andy Castina, Jeremy, Gina, and Josh Rhome, Michelle Throckmorton, Michael Wiggs, Derek and Brandon Dimit and Robert and Alex Castina; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Jonathan Rhome.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Frank Gross Jr. officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
