Eva C. Baier, age 97 of Beloit, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, June 11, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Baier was born April 1, 1913 in Kent, Ohio to Stephen and Catherine (Evanusa) Duzak and lived in the Alliance area most of her life.
She was a 1931 graduate of Alliance High School and also a graduate of the Canton Beauty College. She was formerly employed as a Youth Director for the Alliance YWCA and as a beautician for the Walton-Schrader Funeral Home for thirty years.
Mrs. Baier was known for her many volunteer hours in the area communities. She was a volunteer swimming instruction for the Alliance Red Cross Summer Learn-to-Swim Program for many years, was a former Girl Scout Leader, a Red Cross Blood Bank volunteer, and a Molly Stark Hospital volunteer. Mrs. Baier was a member of the Alliance Area Senior Center and traveled extensively thought-out the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe with the Center's travel department. Eva was also an avid reader and enjoyed playing dominoes with her family.
Mrs. Baier was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Sebring, Ohio and formerly a member of Regina Coeli and St. Joseph's Churches in Alliance.
Eva is survived by three daughters, Charlotte, (Norman) Sweitzer of Alliance, Roberta (Robert) Cook of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Geraldine Baier of Beloit (Westville Lake), eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, and two very special friends, Barbara Brewer and Joanne Ricci.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baier was preceded in death by her former husband and friend Carl L. Baier, sisters, Mary Duzak and Barbara St. George, brother Michael Duzak, and great-grandson, Brandon May.
As per Mrs. Baier's request, burial will include cremation and private family services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 South Sawburg Road, Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio, 44601 or Rodman Public Library's large print book collection.
