Evelyn Battershell

Evelyn June Battershell, age 89, of Alliance, died at 1:18 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born October 3, 1920, in Atwater, Ohio, to William H. and Sylvia (Carlisle) Cobb and was a lifelong area resident. Evelyn was a 1938 graduate of Atwater High School. She was employed for 20 years with Marlington Schools and retired in 1980 as cafeteria manager at Marlington High School.
A member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was active for many years, Evelyn was honored as the oldest living member of the church. She also was a member of the School Employees Retirement System.
Survivors include her children, which include three sets of twins, Judith (Wade) Reiboldt of Hartville and Janet (David) Boardley of Alliance, Donald (Beverly) Battershell Jr. of Canton and David (Cheryl) Battershell of Wooster, Carl (Gloria) Battershell of Louisville and Carolyn (Charles) Howe of Alliance, and daughter, Bonnie Jo (Bruce) Jones of Canton; 16 grandchildren, Annette, Cheryl, Matthew, Mark, Amy, Pamela, Brenda, Melanie, Kimberly, Kevin, Jacquelyn, Eric, Scott, Christopher, Jason, and Lisette; 34 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Sadie, Tony, Patrick, Jordan, Brooke, Salvatore, Luisa, Lydia, Hannah, Rex, Konner, Emma, Dylan, Neil, McKenna, Cortaise, Jacob, Elizabeth, Justin, Adam, David, Macy, Kyan, Kaden, Carson, Zachary, Tyler, Grace, Will, Paxton, Drew, Adam and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Garrett, Kadence and Asalila; one sister, Mary Stewart of Minerva; and three brothers, Carl Cobb of North Carolina, Robert Cobb of Casper, Wyoming and Richard Cobb of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald E. Battershell Sr., whom she married April 4, 1942 and who died August 4, 2001; newborn grandson, Anthony Edward Battershell; brother, Albert, and sister, Nancy Shope.
Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home or 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Dr. Joel L. Adkins officiating. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
