Evelyn Ruth (Berlin) Baugh

May 24, 1923 — July 2, 2019

Alliance, Ohio

Evelyn Baugh, 96, of Alliance Ohio, passed away July 2, 2019, at McCrea Manor Assisted Living.

She was born to the late Clarence Berlin and Wilda Berlin Battey on May 24, 1923 in Marlboro, Ohio.  Evelyn graduated from Marlboro High School in 1940.

She married the late Charles “Chuck” Frederick Baugh in October 1945, and they lived together in the Alliance area their entire lives.  Evelyn is survived by two children: Dale Baugh of Smithfield, VA and Beth (George) Morris of Indian Rocks Beach, FL.  She is also survived by granddaughter Charlee (Pierson) Eaves of Smithfield, VA; 2 great grandchildren, Bragen and West; several nieces and nephews; and grandpuppies, Nezper, Zazu, Bandit and Coda.  Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband in 1975.  Also, brothers George Berlin and Gordon Berlin; sister Mary Boyle; daughter-in-law Donna Baugh; and her beloved pets, Corky, Brutus Jack, Mitzi and Maggie.

Evelyn was retired from William-Allen Company (North Canton).  She was a life-long member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ where she served as elder, deaconess, chairman of the memorial committee, and belonged to Trinity Circle.  She was also a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority which started in Alliance in 1953.  Evelyn served as president for 3 terms and achieved Diamond Circle as well as Degrees for Ritual of Jewels, Exemplar, Preceptor, Laureate and Master.  She was as a Cub Scout leader and was a previous member of Washington Township Rural Harmony and the Alliance YMCA.

Evelyn loved her animals, from her own flock in the early years, to all the grand-puppies, to her locally adopted cats, birds, deer, squirrels and raccoons.  Despite constantly complaining that she had no mechanical skills, she capably ran her household for over 40 years by herself, dealing with plumbing, electrical, landscaping and auto repairs, certainly qualifying her to be a master of many trades.  First Immanuel United Church of Christ was a center-point of her life, the basis for her spiritual, social, and community engagement activities.  She was proud of the church’s role in the community and did her best to contribute all that she could to these efforts.  Evelyn always enjoyed traveling and visiting her family.  Her “favorite son-in-law” took her to many of the national parks where she loved to stay in the lodges and the local B&Bs.  She delighted in her granddaughter Charlee’s visits for Grandparent-grandchild camp.  Evelyn was a committed patriot of the USA, with so many of her family involved in military service over so many wars and years. She was a decorated Navy Mom, having visited the U.S. Naval Academy, USS Enterprise, USS Harry S. Truman, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard; she was a proud blue and gold lady. She was an avid and loyal sports fan to her favorites --- Marlington High School sports, Mount Union and Ohio State football, and Navy athletics.

The family is grateful for the loving care Evelyn received from Linda Powell, Becky Kesterke, Jen, Cathy, Susan, Joyce and Dr. and Mrs. Kuentz.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2019, with burial following at Highland Memorial Cemetery.  The Reverend Neal Mann of First Immanuel United Church of Christ (Alliance) and the Reverend George Boomer of Hope Presbyterian Church (Smithfield, VA) will preside.  Evelyn loved flowers.  The family also welcomes donations to First Immanuel UC of C, 208 East Oxford Street, Alliance.
