Evelyn Grace (Merrick) Garlock, 97, of Hagerstown MD, formerly a life long resident of the Sebring/ Deerfield area, passed away on Sunday February 25, 2007 at her residence in Hagerstown Maryland surrounded by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Evelyn was born December 24, 1909 in Smith Twp., Ohio to Charles E. and Belle (Smith) Merrick and was employed during WWII at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company as a supervisor in the manufacture of life rafts for Navy air crews and was very proud of her wartime contributions. She was the proud recipient of an "E-award", the Army-Navy Award for Excellence in War Production.
Evelyn was a member of the Church of Christ in the Great Valley, Boonsboro MD.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Lingo of Sebring Oh, two children Dorothy (Honey) Shively of Silverthorne CO, and Emmett (Randy) Garlock of Hagerstown Maryland. Evelyn has five grandchildren; Lisa Shively-Cox of TN, Merrick Shively of CO, Martin Shively of WA, Scott Garlock of NC and Stephanie Cline of MD. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren; Hanna, Isabelle and Emmett Shively of WA, Sierra Shively of CO, and Benjamin, Caleb and Natalie Cline of MD.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 56 years Emmett R. Garlock.
Services will be conducted by her minister Casey R. Strunk at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home in Alliance Ohio on Saturday March 3, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park.
