Everett Linear, age 86, of Alliance, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born January 24, 1928 in Smithfield, Ohio to Hobart Linear and Georgia (Freeman) Linear-Johnson.
A 1946 graduate of Smithfield High School, Everett graduated in 1948 from Erma Lee's College of Barbering and Cosmetology in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was a practicing barber from 1948 until his retirement on July 1, 2006.
A member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church since 1948, he was active as a steward, soloist, and organist for the senior choir for many years. He was also a member of Mount Olive Lodge #66, and past worshipful master in 1975.
Everett was known as a devout Christian, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and enjoyed singing, gardening, and spending time with his family.
In 2008, Everett received a "Making a Difference Award" from the Negro History Steering Committee, and an Icon Award in 2010 from the Pastors and community.
Survivors include his wife, Velma (Anderson) Linear, whom he married July 2, 1950; son, Byron Cedric Linear of Canton, brother, Hobart (Virginia) Linear of Cleveland; grandchildren, Brent Everett Linear, Ashley A. Linear, Michael A. Linear, Jennifer L. Linear, Elsianne Bennett, great-grandsons, Trevor Morgan, Alex Bryant, Jackson Bryant, and Xavier Morgan; niece, Susan Linear; nephew, Thomas Linear; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Artis Michael Linear, who died May 9, 2004, brother William Linear, and sister, Kathryn Shepard.
A Memorial Service will be held at Noon Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at St. Luke A.M.E. Church. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
